  • There is a pivotal moment in the 2011 movie Shao Lin Temple where Andy Lau’s character and a child practice their martial arts together. As my teacher Andrea Falk remarked, this scene captures a great deal of the joy and meaning of Chinese martial arts.
    There is discipline required, but also kinship that bridges generations. When you practice, you share something with martial artists before you. Honour the tradition and don’t forget the joy.
