Spear Seminar Summary, June 4th, 2011
The seminar started with Andrea Falk teaching a couple of spear handling drills
- Lan, na, zha (cover, trap, thrust);
- Right reverse grip, thrust from behind the back.
Lan, na, zha form the foundation skill for spear, while the behind the back thrust, along with the handling drills taught in previous seminars teach how to work with the spear and how to slide the hands to properly guide the spear.
The rest of the seminar was spent learning the Spear 13 routine, a Xingyi routine. The names of the movements are:
- 1. Opening. Step forward raise the spear with one hand
- 2. Stationary lan na zha
- 3. Step forward right pao
- 4. Retreat, circle and dot
- 5. Wheel the body lift and na
- 6. Slide on the shaft lan na zha
- 7. Lan na, jumping zha, beng (on landing)
- 8. Retreat with splashing step, knock low
- 9. Right front cross step na
- 10. Step forward pi
- 11. Closed stance left heng
- 12. Back cross step entangle and pi
- 13. Closed stance left heng
- 14. Step forward right heng
- 15. Step forward zuan
- 16. Turn around pi
- Repeat sequence to finish
