  • The meanings of numbers

Tao engenders one, One engenders two, Two engenders three, Three engenders the ten thousand things. Tao Te Jing chapter 42

Any study of theories behind an internal art eventually leads to the meanings of numbers. Two refers to yin and yang, five refers to the five phases, 12 refers to the circulation of Qi through the 12 meridians, etc. Each number has associated meanings and broad significance.

The 9.0 magnitude earthquake that hit the northeast coast of Japan has resulted in the release of radioactive material from the Fukushima nuclear plant for three weeks and counting. Cesium 137, one of the leaking materials, has a half life of thirty years. Each of these number will have meanings that we have yet to fully realize.
